Online fraudsters are targeting unsuspecting users with scam emails and SMS, often with the intent of stealing identities or making illicit financial gains. It is important that you take all necessary precautions to protect your personal and financial security. This page provides advice as to how you can avoid scammers and details of what to do if yo think you have been the victim of fraud.

What to look out for

  • Unsolicited emails or SMS messages purporting to be from Senetas Corporation.
  • Messages containing downloadable files that may contain malware.
  • SMS messages asking you to track your parcel or claim your free gift.
  • Messages that ask you to provide personal or financial information.
  • Emails from suspicious addresses with “your invoice attached”.

 

How to protect yourself

  • Do not open attachments or follow links from suspicious looking messages
  • Don’t be tempted into taking up offers that appear too good to be true.
  • Be wary of clicking unsubscribe links as they can be a tool to verify your email address.
  • Don’t provide personal or financial information, such as credit card details.
  • Never provide log-in credentials such as PIN or password details.
  • Use up to date cybersecurity defenses, such as anti-spam and anti-virus.
  • Check your financial statements regularly for suspicious looking transactions.

Scam emails or alerts

If you suspect that you’ve received a scam email or SMS claiming to be from Senetas Corporation, please forward it to jobs@senetas.com and we’ll investigate.

Record as much information as possible about the scam but do not take any action. Report the scam to the ACCC via SCAMwatch or call 1300 795 995. The SCAMwatch site contains details of the latest scams in circulation.

 

Identity theft

If you believe that your identity has been stolen, or your personal data is compromised, please act quickly:

  • Notify the local police
  • Report any loss or compromise of identity documents to the issuing authority (EG bank, passport office, vehicle licensing)
