Senetas at MilCIS 2026: Protecting defence data in motion for the post-quantum era

Senetas will join the defence and technology community at MilCIS 2026, at the National Convention Centre Canberra, 17–19 November.

MilCIS brings together military and government organisations, academia and defence industry to shape the future of military communications and information systems.

Why encryption comes first

NIST has just finalised its roadmap for the move to post-quantum cryptography, NIST IR 8547. It draws a clear line between authentication and encryption.

Authentication can keep using today’s algorithms until there is a quantum computer able to break them. At that point it must switch straight away. Encryption is different. Data captured from a network today can be stored and decrypted later, once that computer arrives. This is “harvest now, decrypt later”, and for defence data that must stay secret for years, the exposure has already begun.

In Australia, ASD expects organisations to have a refined post-quantum transition plan in place by the end of 2026.

That makes data in motion the first place to act. Senetas network encryptors support the NIST post-quantum standards today. They are designed in Australia, protect government and defence networks in more than 60 countries, and are upgraded in the field as standards evolve, not replaced.
