Senetas at MilCIS 2025
Translating the playbook for modern defence cyber
The annual MilCIS Cyber Domain and Space Domain Systems Conference and Expo saw a stream of cybersecurity and defence technology providers descend on Canberra, Australia for three days of presentations, latest insights into modern warfare, and a healthy dose of networking.
The conversation focused on the critical need for resilient security in highly dispersed networks, including satellite communications. To see how our solutions protect these remote links, view our latest solution brief on Starlink.

AGILITY UNDER FIRE
Key lessons for defence
WATU’s playbook for modern cyber defence
We were honoured to co-present our session, Agility Under Fire: WATU’s Playbook for Modern Defence Cyber, with Australian pioneer of cryptography and cybersecurity, John Karabin (McGrathNicol). John joined Julian Fay and Andrea Van Unen-Smith of Senetas to address lessons learned from the tactics devised during the Second World War by the Royal Navy and the Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRNS).
Our session paralleled the strategies of the Western Approaches Tactical Unit (WATU) into today’s modern warfare, emphasizing these core principles:
- Rapid Knowledge Sharing: Collaboration and speed in disseminating threat intelligence and lessons learned.
- Adaptive Defence: Resilience and flexibility in security posture as environments and attack vectors change.
- Tactical Innovation: Creative and agile approach to counter evolving threats.
The presentation underscored our unwavering commitment: to deliver the secure, adaptive, and sovereign technology that our defence partners need to protect their most critical communications, both now and into the future. We look forward to continuing the important conversations started at MilCIS with everyone we met.
