Certified Encryption Hardware

Why should you only buy encryption hardware that is globally certified?

Because the two major global standards (Common Criteria EAL4+ and FIPS 140-2) provide an independent assessment of an IT security product against defined criteria to provide assurance in the true security of the system. Certification of a product to these levels ensures trust in the design, operation and reliability of the tested solution as measured against international criteria and tested by licensed laboratories.

The international Common Criteria standard is recognised in more than twenty-five countries and by mutual recognition allows a solution evaluated in one country to be recognised to an equivalent local standard in each participating country. The Common Criteria is used by governments globally as a security benchmark for the purchase of cryptographic solutions.

FIPS140 is the computer security standard for use by departments and agencies of the United States federal government and sets a similar benchmark to the Common Criteria for the use of cryptographic technology within the US government.

Independent testing to measured standards is good for the security industry since it raises quality and allows a meaningful comparison of similar products. Any encryption product that has not been independently tested to either of the above standards relies entirely on the manufacturer's assurances of security and reliability.

Senetas has the only dual-certified encryption hardware listed on the Australian Government's Evaluated Products List (EPL).

This is your surety that when you put your trust in the Senetas Encryption Security Platform you benefit from the most rigorous product development procedures and testing regimes. In addition Senetas products are designed and manufactured to the highest security accreditation levels: the international Common Criteria IT Security Evaluation Standard (EAL4) and the USA National Insitute of Standards and Technology Cryptographic Module Validation Program, FIPS 140-2, are core to the development of all Senetas Security products.
