Senetas MonitorStream® is a  Software-as-a-Service enterprise systems  monitoring solution. The solution is built upon IBM’s Tivoli Monitoring software and Senetas’ proprietary high speed encryption technology. An application in an encryptor, the Senetas-developed appliance provides real-time monitoring and early warning of IT infrastructure performance, availability and capacity issues.

Managing availability and performance

Senetas MonitorStream provides a secure, tamper-proof and fully automated solution capable of monitoring diverse IT environments. With a built-in case management and notification system, automatic alerts are delivered via SMS, email or directly to ticket management systems. The user interface facilitates root cause analysis and quick resolution of problems. 

Senetas MonitorStream securely monitors:
  • Standard Operating Systems, e.g. Windows, Linux, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, AIX etc.
  • CPU, real and virtual memory, disk performance, network performance, critical processes
  • Network device and DNS services
  • Web URL availability 
  • Microsoft Applications, e.g. MS SQL Server, Active Directory
  • Virtualisation services – VM Ware, HyperV
  • Web Services – Apache, IIS, Dot.Net, Microsoft SharePoint

Monitoring capacity and networks

MonitorStream also provides network device management for any network device which supports MIB-II.   Using MonitorStream, customers can monitor a broad range of parameters across a wide variety of managed switches, routers and hubs, drilling down to view individual device or interface availability and bandwidth utilisation. 

The MonitorStream network monitoring capability includes the following:
• MIB-II support for SNMP probes;
• SNMP Trap reception;
• SNMP community strings and ports are customisable on a per-device basis;
• Easy configuration via the MonitorStream portal;
• Tight integration with monitoring views, situations and alert notification; and
• Automated alerts on device-down, interface down etc.

Customers can easily reconfigure Senetas MonitorStream through a user friendly, web-based portal.  MonitorStream reports on performance analytics, including real time performance and availability data, which can also be easily exported.

Network Topology - How it Works

The MonitorStream network topology employs one of ‘hub-and-spoke or ‘star’ configuration. At the hub is the Senetas Trusted Computing Facility, which houses the master monitoring services. Together with the hub hardware encryptors, the facility contains the historical data warehouse and the case management system and notification engine.

Each customer’s environment comprises a MonitorStream gateway appliance, responsible for monitoring of the customer’s systems and serving the various MonitorStream portals, as well as brokering secure communications with the hub. The gateway-hub traffic comprises configuration metadata, alerts, and historical performance data.

Connection between each customer and the MonitorStream hub can be via a dedicated line or via the Internet. There is no routing of network traffic from the hub to the customers' private networks and, of course, there is no visibility of customer's systems to any other customer.
